Childhood is a noteworthy and memorable time in everybody's life. It is full of memories so that it is to some extent shapes the persons we are today. We remember moments when we were playing around in the backyards, jumping on the beds, climbing the trees, running around the house and cycling with friends to places only we knew. It was full of laugh, happiness and freedom. Sometimes, like adults, we were worried and feared. Instead of about losing job or relationship break up, it was about our moms kept our candies, falling from our bicycles and our friends got stickers more than us. When we grew up, then we realize how good it was. Let’s bring our childhood memories back to reality! These illustrations are our second series of Hueynie's project, that as we explained before, to give you a glimpse of fashion design. As you may also notice in other fashion illustrations, the postures more often than not are always thin and tall as the heights are 9-10 times of the heads. We reckon this follows models' standard height, which is more or less 175 cm (5'9''). One of our favorite illustrators is Sabine Pieper, you can find her work here. Some illustrators, such as Kelly Smith, draw it too real until difficult to be distinct from photograph. On the contrary, Garance dore sketches are rather simple and clean. Different from technical drawing, there is no real standards in fashion illustration, you can even use bunny instead of human as your model like Fifi Lapin. You can see more from the experts in thefashionillustrator.com. Happy weekend! Keywords: vintage, classic and whimsical.

I am so excited that the long weekend has started. I bet you too. It has been a busy couple of weeks for me, finally, I am back blogging. Today we are discussing fashion illustration, stuff that you will do a lot when you study fashion design. As you may know, Hueynie is taking a fashion design course. We think it is good to share a glimpse about what she has been learning here, considering that maybe some of you are interested in fashion design too. We planned to explain it from different sides, therefore we will put it into a series of post. First of all, when you draw, it is not drawing without purpose, but everything you draw should have a theme. The topic she raised here is 'Childhood Memories'. She tried to work out these keywords: vintage, classical and whimsical to bring out childhood memories into reality. The design should state moments of full of laughs and happiness yet dramatic sense of childhood. Hence, the second thing to consider is the type of the dress - a drapery dress is an example of a classic and vintage cutting. Consequently, the next thing to think about is from what material you are going to make this dress. Cotton and lace are common fabrics used in the old days. Fourth, have in mind the supporting particles or details. As you can see, she chose stitched flowers, birds and butterflies as the details to strengthen the whimsical and oldie sides of the dress. Lastly, you need to decide the right colors to be incorporated into the design. For this series of illustrations Hueynie chose fancy yet dull color to represent the cheerfulness of childhood, at the same time, the dull color selections highlight past memories issue. Hope you enjoy this post. Happy weekend :) |
